A big thank you to all the parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles who visited campus to spend some quality time with their Vandalia Viking. It was a great day!

The Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE) hosted their K-12 Parent Engagement in Education Program at Vandalia. The nine week program took place on Wednesday nights and focused on a variety of subjects such as creating a home learning environment, navigating the school system, and encouraging high school and college graduation. A big thank you to all the parents who took the time out of their busy schedules to participate!

The TNT Dunk Squad visited Vandalia to pump up the Vikings for the state test. The Dunk Squad used positive messages and acrobatic dunks to get the Vikings ready to slam dunk the test. Go Vikings!

Thank you to all the families that participated in Vandalia's first Reach for the Stars Read-a-Thon in April. Our school collected $1,055 in pledges to support our students' reading goal! Usborne Books has matched 50% of our pledges and we have ordered $1,582 in new books for our school!

4th graders were panning for gold last week. It was a fun, eye-opening experience. A big thank you to the 4th grade teachers for organizing this learning opportunity.

Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is getting our students prepared to compete for the jobs of the future. Throughout the Vandalia campus, students are taking part in various activities and projects that will give them a solid foundation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. PLTW promotes student engagement, critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and fun.

Parents and their children visited the Vandalia cafeteria last week to take part in Vanadalia's Literacy Night. It was a fun-filled evening of reading and activities. A big thank you to all who made this night possible.

Rain couldn't stop the Vikings from celebrating Read Across America last Friday. Before morning recess, members of the Porterville College men's and women's basketball teams visited classrooms and read to students. In the afternoon, students took part in Read Across Vandalia. Grade levels were paired up, and students (as well as teachers) spent time reading to one another. It was a great day!

The 6th Annual Vandalia Soccer Tournament was a huge success. Several schools from across the district came to compete for a chance to be crowned the best elementary soccer team in the district. Congratulations to West Putnam Eagles winners of the boys' division, and the Vandalia Vikings who took first in the girls' division. Our very own Vandalia Vikings also took third in the boys' division.
